The day after

The day after the election was just like any other day. My bride and I decided to head outside of our property’s limits to a bakery to get some good bread. I should say that we had some concerns that we would have run-ins with MAGA-inflated folk. (The only person worse than a sore loser is a sore winner.) But those concerns didn’t materialize.

Yeah, there were MAGA signs and the usual flags on giant pickup trucks but not much else.

Later I participated in an online gathering for People of Culture sponsored by Black Lives of Unitarian Universalism (BLUU). I poured tears with them over our generationally weary souls, and later went to the Patuxent Riverkeeper near the river to reread the last chapter, entitled “The Call to Ancestorship”, of America’s Racial Karma: An Invitation to Heal by Larry Ward. I reread his 3 mantras:

  • “Stand up in the house of belonging.”
  • “Take your seat at the table of healing and transformation.”
  • “Ride the winds of change, unafraid.”

I met a friend by the tree in the front yard who thought it comforting to remind me that we’ve been through worse. He referenced the book The Iceman Inheritance: Prehistoric Sources of Western Man’s Racism, Sexism and Aggression by Michael Bradley as an explanation for the history and culture that lead to Trump’s blowout, but he didn’t have the time, and I didn’t have the energy to discuss things further. That’s it.
